Ukraine: Lviv
Lviv is a city of transition. It’s far West where missiles come less leaving many families finding safety in shelters that once were gymnasiums, puppet theaters, photo studios and more.
World Central Kitchen was quick to respond. Quickly feeding every border - so that families can receive a hot meal as they navigate their next move. They transformed warehouses to stock food, transform restaurants to large catering kitchens, and training refugees into chefs.
Anya was a college student but now that classes have been cancelled, she keeps herself busy on the sandwich line. In Lviv, World Central Kitchen partners with food banks, restaurants, and caters as they redirect surplus food and people into a common goal: to feed others.
A missile strikes a oil warehouse as we commute back into Downtown Lviv.
With the airspace closed, Ukraine greatly relies on its complex railroads. World Central Kitchen utilized these cars to move bulk food across the country.
Behind the Scenes
A little shadow tries her hand in filming.
The air-raids alarmed, and we fled to the historic bunkers in downtown Lviv. “We could be here for hours.” moaned our guide. Then it clicked. I made a make-shift interview set-up and entertained crowd as they told me their stories, 40 feet below ground.
